the goodness of god
A man of prayer. A preacher of God’s Word. A loyal husband. A loving father of four. A joyful grandfather of 15. A compassionate friend. An intentional mentor. A consistent leader.
These are just a few ways to describe our Pastor, Bro. Steve Gaines.
Bro. Steve has been pastoring churches for 37 years, and this month, we celebrate his 15th anniversary at Bellevue. During those 15 years, we have taken many monumental steps as a church. Under Bro. Steve’s leadership, we launched many programs including Awesome August, Bellevue Loves Memphis, the Christian Mobile Dental Clinic (CMDC), The Vue College Ministry, and Bellevue Bella Vista. Bro.Steve also helped establish our Mission and Vision as a church.
As part of our Vision frame, we seek city renewal. This value has been at the center of the Gaines’ hearts since first arriving in Memphis. Through the establishment of Bellevue Loves Memphis, the CMDC, Serve Out Pathway Partners, and more, Bro. Steve has pushed us to find new, tangible ways to show Christ’s love to our neighbors in Memphis.
Outside of Bellevue, Bro. Steve has also served on many denominational boards and committees and been the keynote speaker at many denominational events. Some of his most acclaimed positions since coming to Bellevue have included the following: President of the Southern BaptistConvention (SBC) Pastors’ Conference, President of the Tennessee Baptist Convention Pastor’s Conference, Chairman of the SBC Resolutions Committee, and two terms as the President of the SBC (2016–2018).
Along with thanking Bro. Steve for his leadership, we would also like to recognize and thank Donna for the vital role she has played in the Gaines’ ministry at Bellevue. As a teacher for Bellevue Women, Founder and President of ARISE2Read, disciple-maker of young girls in Next Gen, prayer warrior for our people and church, and servant of the Lord, we thank you for the ways you have made an eternal impact on our people.
Join us as we celebrate Bro. Steve’s milestone anniversary at Bellevue and thank him, Donna, and the rest of the Gaines family for their service at our church.
