Serve Outside the Box

Missions projects. Bellevue Loves Memphis Workdays. Vacation Bible School. These are some of the typical things that come to mind when we think of serving, and each one is an essential avenue for taking the Gospel from Memphis to the ends of the earth. But when it comes to serving out at Bellevue, you also have opportunities to serve outside the box.

Thrift store shopping, hosting a free dental clinic, and serving at an international soccer tournament–these are just a few of the unique ways Bellevue reaches our city with the Gospel.

Thrift Store
At Legacy Thrift Center, a volunteer operated thrift store in Cordova, Tennessee, every dollar goes toward worldwide missions. This organization helps send out short-term and long-term missionaries, provides funding for Pioneer Evangelism (church planting in remote areas of the world), and sends Bibles to China and the other regions where Bibles are scarce. By shopping, donating, or volunteering at Legacy Thrift, you are taking the Gospel to the nations.

Free Dental Clinic
Mid-South Mission of Mercy is a sight to behold. Imagine a gymnasium filled with rows upon rows of dentist chairs, manned by dental professionals volunteering their time and providing free dental care for two days straight for those in need. That is Mid-South Mission of Mercy. But it takes more than medical professionals to make this happen. Hospitality is the name of the game for this event. If you can offer an encouraging smile or a helping hand, you are just the volunteer for the job.

International Soccer Tournament
Athletes come from around the world. They represent their home countries as they compete for the soccer championship, but it’s not the Olympics in Japan. And it’s not the World Cup in Qatar. It’s the Cup of Nations, and it’s held in Memphis, Tennessee, each year. Eleven nations representing more than 150 players come to us as we host a soccer tournament and show these guests what intentional hospitality looks like at Bellevue. We have the opportunity to interact with the athletes’ families on an ongoing basis, serve food to each of the teams, and show the love of Christ to those far away from home.

These are just a few of the ways you can serve outside the box at Bellevue. Take whatever you think of missions and explore deeper to see how you might be able to use your unique gifts, talents, and interests to serve the Kingdom of God.
