This experience then lead her to praise the Lord. After that small glimpse of God’s glory, she was shown even more incredible things. In the same way, the first impressions we give should point toward and open the door for someone to hear the Gospel, the greatest gift of all. Wouldn’t that be incredible if you could say that happens at your church?
Below are 5 quick tips to consider when you are at church on Sunday morning that will help make a good first impression.
1.Smile
Happiness is contagious! If a guest sees a happy person inside the church, they will automatically know that this church is a place they too can be happy in.
2. Go Out of Your Way
If a guest flags you down and starts heading toward you, walk toward them as well. This shows you care and want to hear about what they are asking about. If they need directions somewhere, walk them to where they need to go. This gives you a chance to ask their name, tell them yours, and establish a personal connection with them.
3. Dress Accordingly
If you are going to be volunteering outside for the valet ministry or traffic ministry, take a moment to check the weather when you’re getting ready. No one is appealing to a new comer when they are drenched in sweat or rain, or when their skin is blue and frostbitten. You serve your best when you are comfortable, so make sure you allow for comfort as much as you can.
4. Actively Look for Guests
Learn the signs of a first time guest; then, cordially offer help. “Hey, I’m Nathan, is there anything I can help you find?” Often times, guests will be hesitant to ask for help, but if help is offered, then they will more than likely accept it.
5. Be Filled with the Spirit
Above all else, this tip is most important. If you are actively working on your relationship with the Lord and submitting to His leadership, then you are going to be the best volunteer you can be! You can do all the right things, but they will be empty motions without the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you. Spirit-led actions lead to people being receptive to hear the Gospel.
