Banners are tools used by the Holy Spirit to bring glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Combined with anointed music and preaching of God’s Word, banners encourage worship by presenting an aspect of God’s character drawn from His Word.

The Banner Ministry of Bellevue Baptist Church began in 1986 under the direction of Dr. James D. Whitmire, Minister of Music, and Carolyn Higginbotham, Banner Coordinator, with 14 banners. Today banners continue to find a useful place in worship services and mission trips, where they have been left with missionaries in Hawaii, Africa, Romania, Guatemala, Honduras, and India. They have also been used in 3 Southern Baptist Conventions (and will be used this summer in Greensboro, N.C), retirement services, funerals, graduations, weddings, parades, and presentations such as the Singing Christmas Tree and Memphis Passion Play. Today’s challenge in our generation is to know Him, to share Him, and to pass that understanding of Him to the next generation.
